Project Made:Discover Giving in Your Area
"Love to Give, and Give to Love"
All things can begin with the best intentions and then life happens and certain things (Project Made) gets postponed. So I am happy to say that I am back, and fully plan on completing the final 10 projects of Project Made.
To kick things back off, I thought I would share a few local ideas of charities that offer ways for you to make and give back.
WIRES is a fantastic organization here in Australia that protects and helps native Australian animals. I have called them on one occassion when we found a possum in our yard that had fallen from a tree. They were able to send someone out immediately (on a Sunday), and even called to let me know the status of our little Henry. I couldn't help but give him a name. Sadly he passed away, but as an American, I was able to apprieciate how Australian's take care of their wildlilfe. I thought I would share the Possum/Joey pouch project as something quick and easy to make. I have helped young girl scouts sew these pouches, and I think its a great project to get the kids involved with as well. If you are a quilter, most likely you have heard about Project Linus and if you haven't then today is your lucky day. Project Linus is a world wide organization that "Provide love, a sense of security, warmth and comfort to children who are seriously ill, traumatized, or otherwise in need through the gifts of new, handmade blankets and afghans, lovingly created by volunteer blanketeers." (projectlinus.org) If you love to quilt, knit, or crochet and want to make a difference in a little childs life, then this is the perfect organization to be involved with. I have provided the link to the project page, to be inspired by what you could make and how to donate.
"Softies for Mirabel’ is an annual handmade toy drive for the Mirabel children. The campaign is the brainchild of Pip Lincolne, Melbourne craft enthusiast and owner of Meet Me At Mike’s store in Fitzroy, Victoria. Every year the toy drive is open to all crafty participants who wish to knit, crochet or sew a Softie or two. Participants are encouraged to be as creative as they like as each Softie will be matched to the age, likes and needs of a Mirabel child. This person to person hand-made appeal keeps getting bigger and better every year as more people contribute Softies to help make a difference to the life of a Mirabel child."
I have followed the blog "Meet Me At Mike's" and know so many women who absolutely love making cute softies. I thought this was a fantastic charity, for a great cause with flare and excitement!!
So I hope you enjoyed today's Project Made Inspiration... I've show cased a lot of my own original crafts and handmades over the past few weeks, but I wanted to use this post to really highlight the other amazing ways that you can get involved with Handmade. There really is something out there for everyone!
