The Beginner Sewist - Bec's Journey into Sewing

Updated: Apr 18, 2023

Can you believe I have been working for Sew to Grow for nearly a year now, and that means I also started my sewing journey about a year ago too! And in all that time I have never made the adult version of the Bondi Top!?! That just seems so wrong, so in celebration of #bonditopchallenge month, I've done it! I've made myself a Bondi Top. I was gifted this gorgeous @riflepaperco fabric (thanks Lindsey!), and knew exactly what I wanted to use it for as soon as I saw it. I think it looks super cute and is perfect for the Queensland spring weather. It's definitely a brighter and more floral than I would normally choose, but what do you think? Suit me ok? Lindsey tells me I'm 'true spring colours' and need to wear brighter clothing.

The make itself was pretty good. I love the Bondi Top as it is quick and easy, plus I used Lindsey's new FREE sew along, and I love completing a project in just one afternoon. And guess what - the unpicker didn't get used once!!! That is definitely a first! Bias is something I have always tried to avoid, choosing to hem where possible, but I felt this was a great project to practise that on. I also loved using my overlocker. I really feel like I'm finally understanding how to use that machine, getting a feel for it and being much more comfortable.

Happy Sewing!

Bec

P.S. Lindsey talked about choosing a colour pallet in a previous Tuesday Tip. You'll find it here and get the FREE sew along is here!
